CARNOT is a student club in the Mechanical Engineering faculty at Tel Aviv University. We connect students to industry. That is the whole purpose, and everything we run serves it.
The gap
A Mechanical Engineering degree teaches you to solve hard problems. It does not teach you Ansys, or how a tolerance stack behaves on a real drawing, or what a hiring manager reads in the first ten seconds of your CV.
Most students find that out in their final year, when they start applying. By then it is late. CARNOT moves that discovery to first year and gives people something to do about it.
The four pillars
We bring in founders and executives from Israeli industry. They talk about what the work actually looks like, how they got there, and what they look for when they hire. Small rooms, real questions, no panel theatre.
Hands-on sessions on the things the syllabus skips. Industry software like Ansys. Tolerancing and GD&T the way manufacturers actually use it. CV sessions where a recruiter goes through real student CVs and says what would get them an interview.
We build the pipeline. Companies tell us what they need, we put the opening in front of the students who fit, and we help them get ready for it. A student should not have to know somebody to get their first engineering role.
Course summaries written by students who took the course and did well. Tutoring for the heavy ones. It keeps people in the degree, and it is how a lot of students find us in the first place.
The model
The events are open. Anyone studying Mechanical Engineering can attend, and we want the room full. That is the point of a club.
The work behind the events is done by a selected core. People apply, we pick a small group each round, and they get the projects, the leadership and the direct company contact. Keeping that group small is what keeps the standard high.
Open to every ME student. Come to any event, take the summaries, no application and no fee.
Selected by application. Runs the projects, leads the workshops, meets the companies directly.
Sets direction, owns the partnerships, decides what CARNOT builds next.
The name
The Carnot cycle is the thermodynamics diagram every ME student meets in second year. Two isothermal steps, two adiabatic steps, drawn as a closed loop. It sets the theoretical ceiling on how much useful work you can get out of a temperature difference.
No real engine reaches it. Every real engine is measured against it. We took the name because that is the standard we want to be held to, and because the loop makes a very good letter O.
