Take this route if

You want to be the person who signs off that the part will not fail. Simulation and FEA are the most consistently advertised mechanical roles in the country, and this is the route that fills that CV.

What you need before it starts

Mechanics of solids 1 and Rigid body dynamics. Everything on this route descends from the first one, which is why the route is so dense in the solids group.

Where it lands you

Simulation engineer, FEA analyst, stress analyst, structural design engineer. For research it points at nonlinear finite elements, fracture, composites and topology optimisation.

What will bite

Introduction to finite elements runs in the fall and Industrial applications of finite elements in the spring, so they cannot be taken in the same year unless you take the intro in the third-year fall. That ordering is why this route front-loads it.
