Manufacturing and process engineer
Owning how the thing actually gets made, at rate and at yield. Less visible than design and considerably harder to outsource.
What the work actually is
You work on the line: process parameters, tooling, cycle time, scrap and the root-cause investigation when yield drops. The problems are concrete and the feedback is immediate, which suits people who dislike long simulation cycles.
In forming and machining that means forces, tool wear and formability limits. In semiconductors it means process windows, statistical control and a cleanroom. The mindset transfers; the vocabulary does not.
A large part of the job is data: knowing which measurement to trust and how to tell a real shift from noise.

What prepares you
Plastic forming is the theory of why parts can and cannot be made. The materials lab gives you the characterisation habit. Engineering design supplies the design-for-manufacture half. Deterministic models in operations research is the unexpected one, and it is what lets you argue about scheduling and line balance rather than only about parts.
